What: Public event, “Alaska to PEI: Why Alaska Opposes the GM Atlantic Salmon”

Who: Featuring Alaskan State Representative Geran Tarr (Anchorage). Presented by Islanders Say No to Frankenfish and the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network.

Why: The Alaskan House and Senate unanimously passed a resolution calling on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to further investigate the effects of producing genetically modified (GM) Atlantic salmon before making any final decision. Join Alaskan State Representative Tarr to find out why fisher organizations across Alaska oppose the GM salmon. The US company AquaBounty wants to produce all its GM salmon eggs on PEI. What does this mean to PEI and the rest of the world?

The GM Atlantic salmon could be approved in the US any time after April 26. The commercial production of the GM salmon eggs could be approved by Environment Canada any day.
