Ottawa – This week the proposal to build a biofuels plant in PEI came under fire at a hearing of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food that is examining Bill C-33, a Bill that would mandate the use of biofuels in Canada.

Ottawa, Nov 8, 2007 - Today in Ottawa, Montreal and Arva ON, 3 delegations of farm and civil society leaders from the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network (CBAN) observed a minute of silence and delivered letters of concern over the killing of farm leader Valmir Mota de Oliviera and the use of armed militia to protect tests of genetically modified (GM) crops owned by Syngenta in Brazil.

Ottawa, May 31, 2007 – Today, a Private Members Bill to ban “Terminator technology” – seeds genetically engineered to be sterile after first harvest – was tabled by Member of Parliament Alex Atamanenko, Agriculture Critic for the New Democratic Party and MP for B.C. Southern Interior.

Monday December 4, 2006, Ottawa - On Friday December 1st in Winnipeg, a representative from Agriculture and Agri-food Canada admitted that the department has no capacity to assess the social and economic impacts of Terminator seeds – seeds genetically engineered to be sterile after first planting – before introducing them into Canada.
