Jaydee Hanson, Senior Policy Analyst, Center for Food Safety, Washington DC

Jaydee Hanson works as a policy analyst for the Center for Food Safety in Washington DC on issues related to animal cloning, animal genetic engineering and nanotechnology. He also works for the Center’s sister agency, the International Center for Technology Assessment (ICTA) where he directs their work on human genetics, synthetic biology and nanotechnology. He is a member of the steering committee of the Transatlantic Consumers Dialogue and formerly worked in the Office of International Fisheries of the US National Marine Fisheries Service. www.centerforfoodsafety.org

Eric Hoffman, Biotechnology Policy Campaigner, Friends of the Earth U.S.

Eric Hoffman is the Biotechnology Policy Campaigner at Friends of the Earth U.S.. His main focus is on the environmental and socio-economic impacts of emerging biotechnologies such as genetically engineered animals and synthetic biology, and he is helping to lead a U.S. campaign to ban the patenting of genes and DNA sequences. Before joining Friends of the Earth U.S., Eric was a policy analyst for the National Family Farm Coalition and the Community Food Security Coalition where he focused on policies to rebuild local food systems in the U.S.. He was also an Emerson National Hunger Fellow with the Congressional Hunger Center where he studied the role of sustainable agriculture and local food systems as a way to fight hunger and poverty. www.foe.org

Lucy Sharratt, Coordinator, Canadian Biotechnology Action Network, Ottawa.

Lucy Sharratt works in Ottawa as the Coordinator for the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network, a 17-group coalition including farmer organizations, environmental and grassroots groups, and international development organizations. Lucy has worked as a researcher and campaigner on the questions raised by genetic engineering for 15 years, with a particular focus on Canadian regulation. Lucy has worked on this issue for the Sierra Club of Canada, Polaris Institute and the International Ban Terminator Campaign.www.cban.ca/fish

Leo Broderick, Vice-Chair, Council of Canadians

Leo Broderick is a community activist from Charlottetown PEI. Leo is presently the vice-chair of the Council of Canadians and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Canadian Peace Alliance. Leo is actively involved in the PEI Coalition for a GMO-Free Province as well as the PEI Health Coalition. He is also a former President of the PEI Teachers’ Federation and a Vice-President of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation.
