Talking Points for calling or writing the Minister of Health
Talking Points:
- All new GM foods should be assessed by Health Canada for potential health risks.
- Combining eight GM traits together can result in unintended effects and these problems won’t be found if we don’t look for them.
- Approving GM “SmartStax” corn without any safety assessments for human health is irresponsible and unacceptable.
- There is no mandatory labeling of GM foods in Canada so Health Canada can’t even trace any potential health impacts.
- Health Canada is supporting Monsanto instead of looking out for the health of Canadians.
- The Minister of Health should ask the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to withdraw its approval for “SmartStax”, until Health Canada assesses its safety for human consumption.
- “SmartStax” corn should not become part of our food until Health Canada takes a close look at potential health risks.
- There needs to be a national review and debate about all the regulations for GM foods as they are inadequate and outdated.
